About Lateral Visions - History

Lateral Visions was founded to explore and evangelise the use of interactive 3D technology. Typically found in videogames, this advanced technology has many uses beyond entertainment, for purposes now known as 'serious games'. Lateral Visions has built several 3D technology platforms (supported in part by a prestigious UK Government Smart Award), and has accumulated extensive experience in using interactive 3D to deliver a variety of projects for marketing, education, business, training and entertainment.

Lateral Visions has gained a reputation for delivering sophisticated yet engaging 3D projects, ranging from driving simulations to architectural walkthroughs to business presentations, to educational games. Clients to date include Shell Global Solutions, English Heritage, the UK Government, various UK Councils, Universities, Royal Societies and SMEs. Such high-quality projects led to Lateral Visions winning the Merseyside Innovation Award, the Mersey Partnership Award and Best Application of Gaming & Simulation to Learning (at the IMS Global Learning Awards).

With the development of the latest 3D technology, it became apparent that Lateral Visions had a unique opportunity to create an entirely new Web-based 3D platform. Drawing upon the experience and knowledge gained from delivering Interactive 3D projects, Lateral Visions has created a new platform that integrates 3D with the Web far more closely than any other technology has ever been able to do. By recognising the features that made the Web itself successful and applying the same ideas to 3D, Lateral Visions has created a uniquely powerful '3D Web' platform, some years ahead of potential competitors, and with completely unique features. This technology is available now for client projects, and will be commercialised for use by third-party developers soon.
