Lateral Visions 3D Web Technology - Requirements
Browser
Lateral Visions 3D Web Technology requires a small, secure plugin to operate. This is only around 100kb in size, is secure and digitally signed, easy and fast to download, and performs almost no installation. It does not usually require an administrator account for installation. To get the plugin, simply visit any web page with embedded 3D Web content; for example http://lv3dweb.net
The plugin is available for all browsers on Windows, and is coming soon to Apple Mac OSX and Linux.
Supported Operating Systems: Microsoft Windows XP, Vista or newer
Supported browsers: Internet Explorer 6+, Firefox, Opera, Google Chrome, Apple Safari
Server
To host a 3D website, no special software is required on the server. A standard http server is all that is needed, such as Microsoft IIS or Apache. It may be necessary to add MIME types to allow new types of content to be served; in particular for lua script files ('application/x-lua'). A license file (available only from Lateral Visions) is required to use premium functionality; basic functionality is free. Server side software such as PHP and .Net can be used to dynamically generate 3D websites if required, much the same as for 2D websites.
Developer
Once a developer has the browser plugin installed, no extra software is required to develop 3D websites. A simple text editor allows editing script files, and any 3D modelling or image editing software can be used to edit 3D models and texture image files. In future, Lateral Visions will offer fully visual 3D Web editing tools allowing easy creation of 3D websites for non-programmers.
